Community Options currently operates seventy group homes supporting people with disabilities across New Jersey. The organization is working on a unique project that has never been done in the state. In partnership with Hopewell Township and Princeton Design Guild, the nonprofit is building the first sustainable group home for people with disabilities in New Jersey.
The Red Ribbon Academy medical day program provides medical, therapeutic and recreational supports to people with severe developmental disabilities. The organization was founded in February 1989 by Robert Stack, the President and CEO, along with a small group of disability advocates, including Dr. Colleen Wieck, Frank Zak, Paul Hritz and Elizabeth Pendler, to create residential and employment supports for individuals with disabilities. The organization states that all people with disabilities should live in community-based settings and be released from state-run institutions and large congregate settings.

Each person living in the home will have access to a private bedroom, a fully stocked kitchen and common areas for relaxation, recreation, and socialization. To that end, we have developed an array of income producing projects; from entrepreneurial businesses that employ people with and without disabilities, to supported employment with one-to-one job coaching, to individual micro-enterprises. Community Options also utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis therapies and techniques in order to assist individuals with autism in building important life skills. Plans call for the construction of this home to be LEED for Homes certified. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, provides standards for environmentally sustainable construction Project architecture and construction is being managed by Princeton Design Guild .

With a dedicated board and a staff in excess of 5,000 people, Community Options is funded primarily through federal, state, local and philanthropic investments. All stakeholders believe that every person regardless of the significance of their disabilities should have the opportunity to be employed and to live in local neighborhoods like any other American. In fact, Community Options provide services to more than 5,000 persons with disabilities, and many with very significant disabilities.

Princeton Design Guild is a full-service design construction firm located in the Princeton area. Serving area clients for over 25 years, PDG is headed by Kevin Wilkes, AIA, supported by a staff of architects, woodworking craftsmen and construction professionals.
We are always seeking Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to join our team. Founded in 1989, Community Options is a national nonprofit with over 50 offices in 11 states. Our mission is to develop housing and employment for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Community Options understands the fundamental importance of home as a physical and emotional support, especially for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who want to live independently in community settings or with family members. Meaningful Day, is the first hands-on manual for Direct Support Professionals working in day programs as well as residential services. The United States House of Representatives honored Community Options for 25 years of service on February 10, 2014. On May 8, 2014, the organization gave Thomas Kean, the 48th governor of New Jersey, its Betty Pendler Award for his years of service dedicated to people with disabilities.
During the week, residents may attend Day Program services, or take part in a supervised or supported employment programs at a Bancroft facility or in the community. Direct care staff support each person in developing and improving daily living skills and accessing community services, recreation and engagement – while building independence at every opportunity. Providing support & residential services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Spacious apartments with 24-hour staff supervision feature private bedrooms and shared common areas. Staff members provide support in meal preparation and other daily living tasks. Staff also manage medication, schedule appointments, and provide transportation to and from day programs, community outings and appointments as needed. Concentrated management based on the effective use of technology keeps overhead costs under 11%. We support individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fragile X Syndrome, Prader-Willi, and traumatic brain injury. Many of the individuals we serve also have co-occurring medical and mental health conditions such as Seizure Disorder, Pica, Diabetes, Mood Disorders, Schizoaffective Disorders, and Impulse Control Disorders.
Community Options hosts an annual national conference to discuss services to people with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury. For adults with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities who require support with daily living tasks, Bancroft offers community-based residential programs in group homes and apartments throughout southern New Jersey. We provide community-based residences in safe and attractive neighborhoods and communities.

We provide training and development opportunities to help you reach your professional goals. A national boardconsisting of professionals and advocates consider policy and governs the organization with formal quarterly meetings, relevant subcommittees and fiduciary oversight. The board assists the Founder and CEO with strategic planning, budget forecasting, insurance, capital acquisitions, talent, compensation analysis and legal relevance. No aversive conditioning or negative behavior modification is used and the agency preference is to avoid any kind of physical management. All initiatives undertaken by Community Options are based on respect for the individuals and their families.
Community Options is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to develop homes and employment for people with developmental disabilities. Starting in 1991, Community Options annually selects a distinguished person who exemplifies the mission of Community Options as the Betty Pendler Award recipient. Pendler, who died in 2001, was known for her work for people with disabilities as well as raising a daughter with a developmental disability. Group activities are available while respecting the individuality of each person.
